  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the Cruzeiro do Sul Airport airstrip in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre; taking into account the added uncertainty of the word "arredor" (the surroundings of) in the locality description. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the airport of the city of Cruzeiro do Sul. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure the total extent of the airstrip of the airport, then halved this distance to approximate the location of the geographic center of the airstrip. Measured to approximately this halved distance from one extreme of the airstrip toward the center; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the geographic center. Because the geographic center of the nearest named place to the airport, the city of Cruzeiro do Sul, is farther than the linear extent of the airstrip itself, followed "Case A" of Named Place: Near a Named Place of the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the linear extent of the airstrip of the airport by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the airstrip. Input coordinates, linear extent (1475.42 m), and measurement error (.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Near a Named Place).
