The New York Botanical Garden CULTIVATED PLANTS of U.S.A. Cucurbita pepo L. "acorn squash" NEW YORK: Bronx Co, Bronx, bought in grocery store. Pedicel green, hard. Fruit dark green, some with irregular orange blotches or areas; regularly and deeply 10-ridged, often with a prominent nipple (not a protruding ovary as often in C_j_ maxima) at the flower end.
