Description
Pileus 4-12 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, tomentose to matted tomentose, becoming areolate with age, pale yellow to yellow at first, then reddish to olive brown to brown (6E-F8-7-6) with age, with a sterile, whitish incurved margin when young soon decurved and irregular. Flesh bright yellow, changing to blue immediately when exposed, with mild odor and taste . Tubes adnexed, bright yellow to lemon yellow, instantly bluing when bruised, pores concolorous and staining blue. Stipe 2-6 cm long, 1.5-4 cm broad, equal to pinched at base to narrowing below, dry, glabrous (ornamentation or pruina absent), bright yellow (as in tubes), developing orange to red stains in situ toward base, with white basal mycelium, with interior bright yellow, staining blue immediately when exposed.
