    Herb. I have been somewhat perplexed about this genus, and have supposed that botanists have not always understood it always, though I have had no means of ascertaining where the mistake lies, or if it does not lie in myself. The two plants which I send were collected near the mouth of Cape Fear River, N.C. where I observed the them two seasons, and found them maintaining uniform differences as seen in thses specimens. The one grows erect, except at the base, branching freely, and attaining the height of 12-18 inches. The other...[message continued on back side of the label]. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
