DICOTYLEDONS CASUARINACEAE CASUARINA Linnaeus CASUARINA EQUISETIFOLIA Linn.; Blanco FI. Filip. (1837) 661; ed. 2 (1845) 460; ed. 3, 3 (1879) 67. The species was correctly interpreted by Blanco, but Fer* nandez-Villar erroneously reduced the form described by Blancos to Casuarina swnMrana Miq. Linnaeus must be cited as the author for the species as well as the genus, although Forster is usually given as the author of the former. The combination Casua/rina equisetifolia (equisefolia) Linnaeus appears in Arnoen. Acad. 4 (1759) 143, the species being typified by Casuarina lito- «rea Rumph. Herb* Amb. 3, pi. 57. It is common and widely distributed in the Philippines along the seashore and extending- far inland in open river valleys, reaching; an altitude of at least 500 meters. It^is wid_efcg known as Illustrative specimen from Isabela Province, Luzon, June, 1913 {Merrill: Species Blancoanae No. 595).
