SANDERSON, Librarian IVAN M. JOHNSTON, Assistant LESLEY C. BROWN, Bibliographer LILY M. PERRY, Assistant Mr* W* C* Ferguson, 37 Atlantic Avenue Hempstead, H* Y. CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS. U.S.A. Oct* 25, 1926. Dear Mr. Ferguson,- I have just been studying your material of Juncus subcaudatus and it seems to be fairly typical of that species* The two numbers:, of course, represent plants from different habitats, but I can get nothing more from them* Unfortunately all the duplicates of the Ifova Scotia series were distri- buted years ago, but I have extracted from one of our sheets a bit of var*. planisepalus which will show you the comparatively broad and flat sepals which characterise the lova Scotia plant, as against the narrow and more corrugated ones of the typical plant farther south. She Investigation of Eleocharis palustris is nearly completed. Most un- fortunately, Miss Brackett, who was carrying it on with me and/who was making the drawings, diet, as the result of complications following an operation for appendicitis in the early summer, and I have not been able * as yet to catch uj> the threads which were left loose at that time# but sooner or later shall publish a revision which was written up, though the plants were not fully illustrated. You are good enough to ask about my summer* It was very much broken up but a thoroughly interesting summer chiefly on account of the Internation- al Congress at Ithaca, which took much of my time,- the first of' the summer in preparation and later in actually attending the Congress and in showing ordinary courtesies to the foreign visiters. My own field work was very slight. Very sincerely, *5?, MLF/FMG NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN 02595123 Ki SI - T .T GRAY HERBARIUlil'jixpiEiiitTION TO NOVA SCOTIA 1 > ) YARMOUTH COUNTY No. GM-bnmk i» sphagnous swale by Salmon (Greenville) Lake M.
