XLV. Alaria tenuifolia ^Setchell ,ad interim.
Forming a distinct zone at the junction of the litoral and sublitoral
regions, western shores of Amaknak Island, Unalaska Bay, Alaska,
June 4, 1899.
W. A. SETCHELL & A. A. LAWSON.
This species, represented by rather young specimens, occurs along
the western coast of North America from Unalaska to Puget’s Sound.
It is to be distinguished from the other species of the region by its
decidedly flattened stipe and thi|^ blade, presenting a great contrast to
the Alaria distributed^ under XLI in theie respects. It is given a
provisional name until its affinities can be more accurately determined.
