BAHIA, BRAZIL Merostachys Municipio Porto Seguro: Parque liacional Monte Pascoal, lo- cated 1^ km east of BR 101 at a point 13 km north of Ita- maraju. Primary forest with very tall trees. Elev. 110m. Clumps of ca. 10 culms in the shaded forest,, the culms very thin-walled, at first erect, then arching. Culm leaves purplish-green with a white waxy bloom, becoming stramine- ous and shed at time of branching; blade green, reflexed, caducous. Branch complement: 3 or 1* branches. The clumps are common in one spot of the forest and represent a young population as the culms are still small and earliest ones from the seedling stage are still present. 11 May 1976 Thomas R.
