Municipio Porto Seguro: Parque Nacional Monte Pascoal, lo-
cated ill km east of BR 101 at a point 13 km north of Ita-
maraju. Primary forest -with very tall trees. Elev. 110m.
Clumps ofca. 10 culms in the shaded forest, the culms
very thin-walled, at first erect, then arching. Culm leaves
purplish-green with a white waxy bloom, ‘becoming stramine-
ous and shed at time of branching; blade green, reflexed,
caducous. Branch complement: 3 or b branches. The clumps
are common in one spot of the forest and represent a young
population as the culms are still small and earliest ones
from the seedling stage are still present.
