Montane cloud forest. Quercus copeyensis & Quercus seemannii. Gregarious. On soil.

Description
Probably thought of in previus collections as G. castaneus, but is not. Pileus 2-4 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dr, subtomentose to subvelutinous, becoming finely areolate to suberect squamulose, dark brown to cinnamon brown. Flesh white, changing slightly to a very pale tan to brownish, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnexed, white when young, then dull yellow (4A-B5), unchanging, with pores concolorous, unchanging. Stipe 2.5-5 cm long, 5-8 mm broad, subclavate and pinched at the base, similar in color and morphology to pileus surface but more substriate with age, dull yellow toward base, white at base, with white interior similar to pileus. NH4OH: reddish orange on pileus.
