Vanda is a tropcial Asian and Australian orchid genus with 85 known species. Vanda coerulea is one of only a very few species that produces a true blue-colored flower, and is thus highly threatened by poaching in the wild. Most Vanda have a distinctive upright (monopodial) growth habit, and several species can grow quite large, with long pendulous waxy epiphytic roots exposed to the air.
