Miltonia

Miltonia consists of 20 naturally occuring species and hybrids that are entirely restricted to the Atlantic Coastal forest of Brazil (with one species extending to the Pampas of Argentina). With large flowers in shades of browns, red, and purples, Miltonia is indeed a striking plant. Unfortunately, wild Miltonia face acute conservation concerns, as the Atlantic Coastal Forest (Mata Atlântica in Portuguese) has lost approximately 85% of its former land area, and only 2% of the forest is protected.
