For as long as we've been using binomial nomenclature to name species, botanists have been naming plants in honor of people. While many name an individual species for someone; a few also get the honor of having a whole genus named for them.
A number of women have unlocked this lifetime achievement. Plant genera named for women are usually named in honor of botanists or for women of nobility (and in this category I include Lady Gaga). See examples of some of these plant genera (above) and learn who they were named for.
