Description:

Annual herbs, with a single erect stem dividing at top into few, ascending branches; plant slightly viscid, odorless. Pedicels at various angles in anthesis, down-curved in fruit, becoming yellowish in fruit, with purple toward the tip; calyx lobes becoming recurved away from the base of mature berry; corolla white with green center, 9-10 mm broad, the lobes spreading; anthers yellow. Fruit globose, 9 mm in diameter, very dark purple, appearing black at maturity, juicy, the juice nearly colorless but easily becoming purple from the crushed fruit wall or purple pulp around seeds; seeds very pale tan, nearly white; fruit with bland taste, but very slightly and pleasantly sweet, with no bitter aftertaste. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
Habitat:

Growing with Solanum ptychanthum Dunal (see no. 30111 for a collection made about 100 km. away).
