Description:

Tree 18 m tall, the trunk 1 m diam; bark dark, deeply grooved with abundant Flavopermelia lichen; vigorous shoots bright red; many seedlings around tree.

Habitat:

Mowed meadow on esker. Carex annectans, Carex bushii, Rubus hispidus, Asclepias amplexicaulis, the woodland margins with Quercus velutina and Pinus strobus.
