United States of America. Virginia. Virginia Beach (Independent City). First Landing State Park. North of Broad Bay, South of US 60 (Shore Drive), ca 800m NE of Route 347 and just SE of electrical transmission line running from park to Fort Story Military Reservation. Alt. 5m. (16 ft.)

Description:

Tree 9 m tall, the trunk swollen at the base, ca 20 cm dbh; bark dark grey, furrows longitudinal, shallow, the ridges braided, ± flat, somewhat scaly; leaves bright green.
Habitat:

Dune forest with elements of Maritime Forest and Southeastern Swamp Forest; dominants include Pinus taeda, Quercus falcata, Quercus virginiana, Persea palustris, Liquidambar styraciflua, Ilex opaca and Nyssa sylvatica.
