Species Description - Plants 0.5-1.2 mm wide, pale green to yellowish green. Leaf lobes obliquely to widely spreading, distant to subimbricate, ovate to suborbicular, with a short, narrow base abruptly dilated to distal portions, dorsal base usually inflexed, apex acute, sometimes rounded, ± plane to reflexed, margins ± crenulate to regularly dentate, mar-ginal cells projecting outward to ± upward, each cell tipped by a small papilla, lobe surface smooth. Cells in midlobe isodiametrical, 15-25 µm. Lobules 1/4—1/3 of lobe length, not reduced, surface smooth, keel entire or nearly so. Underleaves orbicular to suborbicular, bases cuneate to rounded, distant, 1-2.5 times stem width, bifid to 1/2 of length, lobes acute to rounded. Autoicous. Gynoecia usually without innovation, rarely 1, sterile. Perianths obcordate, keels sometimes slightly expanded sideward and upward into very short auricles, margins ± entire to short-laciniate, surface smooth to mammillose. Vegetative reproduction by means of caducous branches (frequent), cladia (rare), and thalloid gemmae.
