Description:
Species Description - Dorsal and lateral branch leaves not or somewhat altered on drying, broadly oblong-ovate, ± abmptly apiculate; margins entire or ± sermlate at the extreme apex; upper cells short-hexagonal, about 1-1.5:1, not noticeably narrowed at the margins. Ventral leaves broadly ovate, short-acuminate, with oblong-hexagonal cells (about 3-5:1). Autoicous. Setae 15-20 mm long; capsules about 1 mm long; ciha of endostome generally in pairs. Spores 11-14 µm.

The typical variety, to be expected in Mexico, has broad, shortly pointed dorsal and lateral leaves with upper cells nearly isodiametric and marginal cells not noticeably narrower than the median. The ventral leaves are relatively broad and rather short-celled as compared with those of the following varieties.
