Genus Description - Plants epiphytic. Rhizomes erect or short-creeping, often densely overlapping, surrounded by mass of roots, the apex covered with scales. Fronds clustered, erect or pendent; blade simple, entire; veins obscure, reticulate or forming single row of areoles between midrib and fertile inframarginal vein. Sori linear, superficial or in grooves, forming a continuous or discontinuous line.

Discussion:

Petiole absent; blade 8-18 mm --- V. costata.

Petiole present; blade <8 mm wide.

Petiole greenish; blade <3 mm wide --- V. lineata.

Petiole brown to black; blade 3-7 mm wide --- V. stipitata.
