Genus Description - Shrubs. Leaves simple, entire, petiolate. Flowers actinomorphic or zygomorphic, (4-)5-merous, in axillary or extra-axillary or panicles; calyx vase-shaped or bell-shaped, shallowly lobed or toothed; corolla trumpet-shaped or funnel-shaped, with spreading lobes; stamens 5, included, the filaments of equal length, adnate to the corolla tube, the anthers opening by longitudinal slits; ovary of 2 connate carpels, the placentation axile with few ovules, the style filiform, the stigma nearly capitate. Fruit a fleshy to leathery berry; seeds few, flattened, angular, lenticular.
