Description:
Species Description - Small tree 2-12 m tall; bark light gray, fissured, with a few horizontal grooves; twigs puberulent, becoming glabrous, densely leafed. Leaves ascending; blades 1.5-4 x 0.5-2.2 cm, elliptic, elliptic-lanceolate, or ovate, chartaceous, glabrous, upper surface with puberulent, planar midvein, lower surface obscurely punctate, the apex obtuse to acute or less often acuminate, the base narrowed the margins revolute especially along the tapering base; petioles ca. 2 mm long, puberulent. Flowers fragrant, numerous in short axillary racemes; axis 2-5 mm long, puberulent; pedicels 3-5 mm long. Hypanthium yellowish green, cup-shaped, 1-1.3 mm long, puberulent, the sepals ovate, puberulent, concave, in unequal pairs, 1-1.5 mm long; petals white, ovate, concave, 3-4 mm long; disk ca. 1.3 mm wide; stamens numerous, the filaments ca. 4 mm long, glabrous. Berry globose, 5-7 mm diam., shiny black.
