Description:

Herb. Spathes with flowering spadices in flower everywhere in wet places The spadices are variable in color, rainging from entirely purple to purple with streaks of yellow. In other places some of the spathes are entirely yellow.. Only a few leaves present but they were only beginning to expand. Flowers: tepals 4, fleshy; imbricate; 4 stamens, these releasing pollen after the stigmas were receptice, i.e., the plants are protogynous, the apices of the tepals of the female phase plants are mostly purple, the apices of the mail phase plants are mostly yellow, the tepals of both phases have yellow tissue within even if the apical surface is purple; stamens with white filaments, restricted at apex; ovary superior the stigma is purple in older flowers.
