Location:

El Salvador. La Libertad. Close to the main road west from San Salvador towards Santa Ana about 25 km. west of San Salvador near the archaeological site of San Andres. Alt. 400m. (1312 ft.)

Description:

LArge tree to 22 m. ht. with heavy branching and a spreading crown, the branches descending towards the crown perimeter. Bark dark grey-brown rough with reticulate plating. Abundant pink flower heads, delicate sweet scent; flower heads heteromorphic with a singel central flower with an enlarged stigma tube; calyx dirty yellow green, corolla red fading pink at tip, stamen filaments white, pink towards tips. Ripe indehiscent pods exuding clear gum collected from below the tree. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
Habitat:

Scattered roadside tree in fenceline with Enterolobium cyclocarpum, Gliricidia sepium and Cordia dentata. Infrequent.
