United States of America. West Virginia. Pendleton Co. Northeast of town of Brandywine, margins of Heavener Run where it meets CR 33/5, at base of rocky slope overlooking the South Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River. Alt. 495 m. (1624 ft.)

Description:

Mostly prostrate and forming large mats (about 10 meters X 15 meters) nearly covering the whole hillside, stems not more than about 3 joints high, most only one or two joints high, from fibrous roots, apparently spineless though with annoying glochids, flowers passed, fruit green, probably not mature, none observed to be red, plants growing mostly in Juniperus shade. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
Habitat:

With Ulmus americana, Juglans, Robinia, Platanus, Hamamelis, Ostrya, Juniperus, Cercis, Fraxinus, Prunus.
