Description:
Arbusto o árbol espinoso de 10 a 30 pies de alto que se distingue por tener varios troncos de 5 pulgadas de diámetro, copa rala extendida, espinas pareadas, flores pequeñas de color amarillo claro o rosadas en cabezuelas y vainas enroscadas rojizas o de color marrón. La fruta de esta especie tiene propiedades astringentes, diuréticas, febrífugas y para el control de condiciones de la piel, riñones e hígado. Se puede observar en malezas, bosques costeros y mogotes del suroeste de Puerto Rico y las Islas de Mona, Vieques, Culebra y Caja de Muerto. Está distribuido en Florida, las Antillas, México y norte de América del Sur. Shrub or thorny tree of 10 to 30 feet of height. It is characterized to have several trunks of 5 inches of diameter, extended thin canopy, matched thorns, small flowers of clear pink or yellow color in reddish small twirled heads and pods of brown color. The fruit of this species has astringent, diuretic, and febrifugal properties and to control skin, kidneys and liver conditions. It can be found among weeds in the coastal forests and hills of the Southwest of Puerto Rico and the Islands of Mona, Vieques, Culebra and Caja de Muerto. It is distributed in Florida, the Antilles, Mexico, and the North of South America.
