This species is variable in shape and size of leaves, the base varying from cordate to rounded to obtuse, the apex from acute to rounded with an abruptly mucronate apiculate projection 1-4 mm long. In the Venezuelan and Tobagan collections the midrib and lateral nerves beneath are strigose, but in other specimens may be hirsute.
