Description:
Species Description - Herbs, to 1.5 m tall. Leaves: blade dark green, the abaxial surface of midrib yellow, very narrowly lanceolate. Inflorescences with distichous bracts; bracts at acute angles to rachis, thin, open, narrow, orange with white bloom on exterior surface, the interior surface red. Flowers: perianth orange with dark green tips; ovary orange; stamens and staminode pale orange. Immature fruits orange, the mature fruits blue-black.
Distribution and Ecology - Cultivated in our area, in native habitat growing in clumps in sunny, open areas, especially common in savannas. Balisier
