B. sawyer/Ren. & Card., Rev. Bryol. 15:71. 1888.

B. longidens Ther., Revista Chilena Hist. Nat. 30: 350. 1926.

B. standleyi Bartr., Field Mus. Nat. Hist., Bot. Ser. 4(5): 354. 1929.

This species is said to be restricted to the Caribbean and the eastern United States (Syed, 1973), but on detailed examination of specimens I would extend the range considerably, as stated above. (Bryum standleyi Bartr. was mistakenly considered the same as Brachymenium standleyi in the Index Muscorum.)
