Species Description - Terrestrial herbs to 1 m or more tall. Stems erect but the older portions reclining, to about 6 cm diam., dark green, mottled with light green, the internodes 3-5 cm long. Sap foulscented, caustic. Leaves: petiole sharply and deeply sulcate, thicker than broad, 30-52 cm long; usually slightly shorter than blades, sheathing to about middle, the sheath margins curled inward; blade ovate-elliptic to narrowly ovate, 30-63 X 16-23 cm, broadest at middle or below middle, slightly inequilateral with one side to 2 cm wider, moderately fleshy; primary lateral veins 10-14 pairs. Inflorescences to 4 per axil, the peduncle 10-20 cm long; spathe green, to 25 cm long; pistillate portion of spadix to ca. 7 cm long. Fruits reddish. Fl (Jul-Sep), mature fr (Oct, Apr);
