Description:

Species Description - Terrestrial herbs. Stems ± erect, to 30 cm long, the internodes short, 1.5-2 X 1.5-4 cm; cataphylls persisting intact, becoming fibrous below. Leaves: petiole C-shaped to weakly D-shaped or terete in transverse section, 30-73 X 1 cm diam., almost as long as blade, ribbed or unribbed; blade ovatetriangular to ovate, prominently lobed at base, (35)40-67 X 24-37 cm, about 1.5 times longer than wide, sinus hippocrepiform to parabolic; primary lateral veins 5-8 per side, the basal veins to 7 per side, the collective vein forming in upper half, to 4 mm from margin. Inflorescences erect, the peduncle 18-50 cm long; spathe greenish, 7-15 cm X 5-25 mm, reflexed; spadix pale green to greenish yellow, narrowly tapered, 7-19 X 0.6-1 cm. Tepals becoming purple; pistils early emergent. Berries purple to reddish brown, 1-seeded. Fl (Jan, Feb, Mar, Sep, Oct), perhaps flowering twice per year or even year round; mature fr (Apr).
