Genus Description - Twining lianas or shrubs. Leaves coriaceous or nearly so, entire; stipules interpetiolar, deciduous. Flowers plant polygamous-dioecious), 5-merous, actinomorphic, in axillary racemes; calyx 5-lobed; corolla funnel-shaped to bell-shaped, the lobes spreading or reflexed; stamens 5, the filaments attached to the base of the corolla tube; ovary inferior, 2-carpellate, each locule with a pendulous ovule, the style filiform. Fruit a flattened drupe of 2 pyrenes.
