Description:

Species Description - Erect herb to 80 cm tall; stems unbranched or more commonly few-branched. Leaf blades 1.5-3 X 1-1.5 cm, obovate, chartaceous, puberulent, also usually glandular below, the margins subentire or crenulate, tapering into a winged petiole to 1.5 cm long. Inflorescence of 5 to many heads on peduncles 0.5-1.5 cm long. Heads ca. 15-flowered; involucre ca. 3.5 mm long; outer involucral bracts much reduced, the inner involucral bracts subequal. Corollas exserted from involucre, 3-4 mm long, the tube long narrow brown or cream-colored, the limb short, lavender, pilose. Achenes ca. 1.5 mm long; inner pappus bristles to 3 mm long, exserted from involucre and nearly as long as the corollas.
