Discussion:
Type. E. oleracea Martius.
The genus Euterpe is here so broadly constructed as to include Prestoea, a group of palms mainly considered to be distinct on the generic level because of its predominantly reduced habit and a correlated retention of juvenile foliar characters. Also the inflorescences are slightly different, for instance in the tomentum. The genus Euterpe has several endemic species in the Guayana Highland.
