Genus Description - Within this taxon is encountered considerable variation in the density of pubescence on the upper part of the stem and branches of the inflorescence from relatively moderate to very dense, from a calyx and hypanthium sparsely or moderately appressed-puberulous to rather conspicuously and densly pubescent, from glabrate or papillate to densely tomentulous outer surface of the corolla-tube with hairs appressed or ascending, papillate to elongated, and rounded or obtuse and 0.1-0.5 mm long, and from stipules only 8-13 mm long and mainly appressed to 20-30 mm long and foliaceous and more loosely ascending.
