Discussion:
L Psammisia guianensis Klotzsch, Linnaea 24: 43. 1851. Psammisia leucostoma Benth. ex Meissn., Mart. Fl. Bras. 7: 127. 1863. Psammisia guianensis has a very large distributional range. Like Satyria panurensis it is most commonly found along the borders of the Guayana- Amazonia and the Andea-Guayana geophysical provinces. Both taxa are also common in the white-sand ''campinas" of Amazonian Brazil (Prance, personal communicadon). Within this range, Psammisia guianensis has a very broad elevational range also (200-2300 m alt) which may account in part for its morphological variation. There is considerable variadon within this taxon in leaf shape, color and length of corolla, and length of calyx. The spurs on the connecdves are generally prominent, usually laterally divergent and often acudsh. However, rarely they may be only slightly raised as an obtuse bump. Corolla color ranges from orange with white tip, to red with white tip. Corolla color, however, is subject to change with age with the corolla often turning completely red in late anthesis.
