Description:

Genus Description - Plants sympodial, terrestrial herbs. Roots simple, fleshy, villous. Rhizomes fleshy, creeping, rooted at the nodes; internodes naked. Leaves nonarticulate, cauline, spirally arranged, petiolate, sheaths short, tubular, blades plicate, thin. Inflorescences pedunculate, terminal, erect, racemose, many-flowered. Flowers resupinate, small. Sepals free. Petals connivent with dorsal sepal forming a hood over the column. Lip partially adnate to the sides of the column and provided with a basal nectar spur. Column short; stigmas 2, approximate, rostellum elongate; anther dorsal, erect; pollinia 2, sectile, caudicles attached to a viscidium. Fruit a capsule.

Discussion:

Erythrodes Blume, Bijdr. 6: t. 1, f. 72. 1825. Type species. Erythrodes latifolia Blume of Malaya, Java, and Sumatra. A tropical and subtropical genus of the Americas, Asia, Malaysia, and Oceanic Islands and consistsing of about 100 species. The generic name refers to the reddish flowers of some species.
