Genus Description - Terrestrial herbs. Leaves cauline, thin to fleshy, withering without abscission. Inflorescences terminal racemes, few- to many-flowered, frequently cylindric. Flowers variable, frequently with conspicuous bracts; sepals subequal, free or connate at base, the dorsal sepal erect and usually concave, the lateral sepals usually spreading; petals similar to but usually smaller than sepals, sometimes bifid, rarely trifid or multifid; lip simple to 3- or more-lobed, spreading, spurred at base; column short, footless, with 2 stigmas or stigma lobes; pollinia granular.
