Description:

Species Description - Epiphytes with compressed, oblong-elliptic pseudobulbs to 9 X 2.5 cm and subtended by one or more foliaceous bracts. Leaves 2 per pseudobulb, oblanceolate, acute, to 26.5 X 3.9 cm, the blade of the uppermost foliaceous bract equal to the leaves. Inflorescences arching, basal racemes to 20 cm long, with broadly ovate, abruptly acuminate floral bracts to 5 mm long. Flowers 4-6, secund, showy, yellow with transverse brown bars and spots near the bases of the segments; sepals and petals lanceolate, long acuminate-filiform; the dorsal sepal 5.3 X 0.4 cm at base; the lateral sepals falcate at base, 12 X 0.6 cm at base; petals falcate-sigmoid, 1.8 X 0.5 cm at base; lip ovate, acuminate, shallowly undulate at margin, 2.8 X 1.3 cm, the calli paired at base, parallel with divergent apices; column 7 mm long. Fl (Oct-Nov). This species is often confused with B. caudata (Linnaeus) Lindley which differs by having two pairs of calli.
