Description:

Species Description - Trunks to 6 m. Fronds bipinnate-pinnatifid, 1-3 m long; petiole 0.6—1.8 m long, brown-red, with brown or black spines, 6-7 mm long, covered by rust-colored scales 22 X 4 mm; blade ovoid to elliptic, ca. 2 X 1.2 m, the rachis spiny, glabrous or with hairs; pinnae lanceolate, short-petiolate, the middle one 60 X 25 cm, the basal ones 40 X 15 cm, the rachis spiny; pinnules pinnatifid, to 12 X 2.5 cm, short-petiolate, the margins dentate to crenulate at summit, the ultimate segments acute, dentate, 3 mm wide; veins branched. Sori medial, inserted at point of vein branching; indusia absent. Common, in lowland forests.
