Description:
Species Description - Cespitose, mostly glabrous, occasionally viviparous, annual or short-lived perennial; culms arching to erect, 8-60 cm tall; leaves mostly cauline or from sterile shoots; inflorescence bracts green, 2-5 exceeding inflorescence; basal bract longest, 1.8-15 cm long, 1.1-4.5 mm wide; inflorescence a large central spikelet, either single or surrounded by up to 5 smaller spikelets; scales ferrugineous when mature, white when young; achenes lenticular, bilaterally symmetrical, very widely obovate to widely depressed obovate, 0.9-1.4 mm long; achene surface transversely rugulose.
