Discussion:
Alsophila schiedeana Presl, Tent, pterid. 62. 1836 [based on a description of a Polypodium without binomial in Schlechtendal & Chamisso, Linnaea 5: 609. 1830]. Trichipteris schiedeana (Presl) R. Tryon, Contr. Gray Herb. 200: 46. 1970. Type. “Inter Huitamalco et Cuapa regionis calidae. Mex.,” Schiede & Deppe 757 (B!-2 sheets, frags. GH, US!; isotype LE!). See Barrington (1978: 38) for additional synonyms based on non-Mexican types. Among the exindusiate species of Cyathea s.l. in Mexico, C. schiedeana can be identified by its concolorous dark brown stipe scales, dark brown búllate costal scales, and rounded segment apices.
