Description:
Species Description - Rhizome horizontal, compact and stolonifer-ous; rhizome scales 3-4 mm long, 0.8-1 mm wide, light brown, debate, entire; fronds dimorphic, clumped, fertile fronds taller than sterile; stipe 1.5-5 cm long, 1/10-1/3 the frond length, brown to purple, with sparse scales, grooved through rachis only, papillate; blade pinnatifid to pin-natisect, 8.5-11 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, coriaceous, linear, elliptic, apex pinnatifid, base gradually reduced to semicircular distant pinna lobes; rachis grooved, papillate; pinnae broadly adnate, oblong, obtuse somewhat falcate, glabrous abaxially and adaxially; margin entire, undulate, recurved; veins simple to once-forked, enlarged vein ending on upper surfacfertile pinnae (8-18 mm long, 0.8-1.5 mm wide) equal to sterile pinnae in length (10-18 mm long, 5-6 mm wide); indusia 0.8 mm wide, erose.

Blechnum ghiesbreghtii (Baker) Christensen, Index filic. 154. 1905. Type. Mexico. Chiapas, Ghiesbreght 207 (K; isotypes NY!, PH). The small size, higher elevation and stolonif-erous nature of Blechnum stoloniferum distinguish it from the other members of sect. Lomaria in Oaxaca (B. divergens, B. l’herminieri and B. wardiae). See B. wardiae for possible hybrid origin involving B. stoloniferum.
