Description:
Species Description - Stems cespitose, 1-2 m tall, 2.5-3 cm diam. Leaves 5-8; leaf spines widely scattered, black, terete, to 7 cm long, few on sheath, lateral surfaces of petiole, abaxial surface of rachis, and margins of blade; sheath not seen; ocrea not seen; petiole 28-43 cm long; rachis 0.8-1.4 m long; blade simple, elongate cuneate-oblanceolate in outline, gradually expanded from a narrowly cuneate base to the bifid apex, without cross-veins; blade to 1.5 m long, 18-27 cm wide at apex of rachis. Inflorescences interfoliar; peduncle to 14 cm, straight, not spiny; prophyll 7-9 cm long; peduncular bract to 17.5 cm long, tomentose; rachis 1-2 cm long; rachillae 5-8, to 4 cm long, at anthesis densely covered with brown, moniliform trichomes; triads irregularly arranged among paired or solitary staminate flowers; staminate flowers 4-5 mm long; sepal lobes 1-1.5 mm long; petals 4 mm long; stamens 6; pistillode present; pistillate flowers 3-4 mm long; calyx annular, to 1 mm long; corolla tubular, 3-4 mm long; staminodes absent; fruits 1.4-1.6 cm diam., broadly obovoid, indistinctly rostrate, orange; mesocarp juicy; endocarp turbinate, the sterile pores slightly displaced longitudinally; endocarp fibers numerous, free, terete, with juice sacs attached; fruiting perianth with minute calyx and longer corolla, without staminodial ring.

Discussion:
Bactris neomilitaris is diagnosed by its orange fruits 1.4-1.6 cm diameter with numerous endocarp fibers with juice sacs attached. De Nevers et al. (1996) included the specimens examined here under B. militaris. The two are similar but can be distinguished by their fruits (see discussion under previous species).
