Georeferencing Method: Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012 (There seem to be two ways to interpret this locality description: 1st) the town of "Acarai" (inferred correct spelling) within the larger region of Camamu, or 2nd) between the town of Acarai and the town of Camamu. To encapsulate both possibilities within the uncertainly radius, georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the town of Acarai, in Mun. Camamu, Bahia, using the distance from that point to the farthest extent of the town of Camamu as the linear extent. Using a paper map of the area (Superintendência do Desenvolvimento do Nordeste. "Itubera" [Map]. Mapas da Região Nordeste do Brasil – 1:100,000. Convênio SUDENE – Governo do Estado da Bahia. SUDENE, Recife, PE, Brasil. 1977) located the town of Acarai, noting its position along bank of the Rio Acarai, 1 km north of a major bend in the road. Using Google Maps (Satellite View) again located the town of Acarai referencing the terrain features seen on the paper map. Google Maps provides a different location for "Acarai" much closer to the town of Camamu; the position shown on the paper map was given priority because that map was printed in 1975, and is more likely to resemble the maps used by the collector in 1931 when this collection was made. Using Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs, found coordinates for the approximate geographic center of Acarai. Using Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps), found the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the most distant edge of the city of Camamu (-13.9385187 -39.1006824). Input coordinates, linear extent (5108.45 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named place: Undefined area, and between two places).)
Coordinate Uncertainty(m): 5110.52
