Description:

Stems cespitose, forming loose colonies. to 4 m. tall, to 3.5 cm. diam., spiny on the internodes. Leaves 7; sheaths 40 cm. long, almost closed, spiny, fibrous on the margins; petioles 50 cm. long, less spiny; rachis 173 cm. long; pinnae 49 per side, regularly arranged and spreading in one plane. Inflorescences interfoliar; staminate flowers persistent. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
Habitat:

Near river, non-flooded. Low-lying forest.
