Description:

Occurring both in forest and cultivated in village, forming dense clones, 1.5 m tall; internodes 3-5 cm long, 1.5-6.0 cm diam., dark green on exposed parts, weakly glossy; petioles dark green, matte, densely mottled with irregular small pale green spots throughout; sheathed ca. 3/4 its length; sheath equally maculate, low and incurled, one side acute and free-ending, the other acute; free part of petiole obtusely and moderately deeply sulcate; blade subcoriaceous, dark green and glossy above, moderately paler and weakly glossy below; midrib weakly flattened with obtuse margins and somewhat paler above, narrowly rounded with upper edge paler below; primary lateral veins sunken obtusely and concolorous above, convex and colorless below; minor veins obscurely visible below, cross-veins weakly visible on upper surface; inflorescences 1-3 per axil; peduncle 8.5-12 cm long, medium green, pale-speckled; spathe 22-30 cm long, 2.7 cm diam., medium green and weakly glossy throughout, pale-speckled along abaxial surface in lower 1/2, inner surface slightly paler and glossy; spadix 21 cm long; female part 9 cm long, 1.7 cm wide; pistils 43-47, with up to 4 pistils across spadix, pistils with stigma orange, staminodia higher than pistils, mostly sterile segment 3 cm long with a few pistils in low 1/2 and a few staminodia in upper 1/2; male segment 10.5 cm long, 8 mm diam.; sap in inflorescence smelling like crushed maple leaves, not at all odoriferous; sap in stem malodorous but not smelling of wild pig, becoming somewhat milky.
