Description:

Tree 4 m tall, the stem ca 5 cm diam; bark thin, grey; leaf blades cupped downward from the margins; fruits red.
Habitat:

Dune forest with elements of Maritime Forest and Southeastern Swamp Forest; dominants include Pinus taeda, Quercus falcata, Quercus virginiana, Persea palustris, Liquidambar styraciflua, Ilex opaca and Nyssa sylvatica.
