Distribution (from PLANTAE): This family is restricted to the Neotropics, ranging from Southern Mexico in the north through Central America, the West Indies (mainly the lesser Antilles) and Northern South America as far south as between central Bolivia and South-Eastern Brazil. The center of the family is in the region of Colombia, where two endemic genera occur.
