Genus Description - Shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate. Flowers medium-sized, regular, bisexual, produced in terminal panicles or axillary panicles; calyx of 5 sepals; corolla 5-parted, forming a short tube at base, the lobes reflexed at anthesis; filaments free; ovary superior; ovules numerous. Fruit a several-seeded drupe. About 400 species, with pantropical distribution.
