Description:
Genus Description - Trees, not producing milky sap; branches few, with septate diaphragmal pith; stipules large, early deciduous. Leaves palmately lobed to entire, peltate, lower surface usually whitish (tomentose); petioles elongate. Flowers in cylindrical aments, the aments clustered at distal portion of peduncles and subtended by a large bract. Fruit an achene, with persistent perianth parts.
